To download the transcript of the interview

If you want to download the transcript of the interview, click on the plain text icon   to the right of the speaker’s name. A plain text version of the transcript will then be downloaded to your computer. Because all the speakers are involved in the same interview, clicking the plain text icon next to any of the speakers will allow you to download the interview.  The number next to the icons tells you how many sections the transcript is divided into.  If the number is 2, for example, the transcript has been divided into two sections. Each section of the transcript must be downloaded separately.  The plain text icon will only give you access to the first section of the transcript.  

 

 

To listen to the interview

The interactive transcript icon  allows you to listen to the transcript line by line in html format.  This option does not download the transcript to your computer.  It may take several minutes for the sound file to download so you can listen.  Once the sound has downloaded, click on a line and a list of options will appear.  Click Play to listen to the line.  The Interactive transcript also allows you to download the second or later sections of a multi section transcript.  At the top right of the page are icons to take you to the next section of the transcript .  An icon to take you to the previous section of the transcript is at the top left . Navigate to the section that you need, and use the plain text icon at top of the page to download the transcript for that section of the interview.      

 

The icons allow you to access the transcript which is available in various formats

o      allows you to read the transcript in html form without sound. If you move the pointer over this icon, it will say ‘html – no sound’.

o     allows you to listen to the transcript line by line in html form with sound (the interactive transcript). If you move the pointer over this icon, it will say ‘html – with sound’.

o   allows you to access the layered transcript.  This version of the transcript can be configured to provide a considerable amount of linguistic information.  Note that sound may take some time to download in this format.

 

 

When you access any version of the transcript, buttons at the top of the page allow you to access the other versions

•      allows you to download a plain text version of the transcript to your own computer.  If you have Results from having created a search, you will receive a search list. At the bottom of the list is an audio extract icon  . If you click this, it will extract the audio files for all the segments in the list of results and allow you to save them to your computer.
